The Biomarker Team in Early Development Oncology (EDO) is responsible for the identification and validation of candidate molecular biomarkers used for the demonstration of pharmacodynamic effects and mechanism-of-action, as well as for response prediction and patient selection/stratification. The team also focuses on cancer disease characterization and supports the whole oncology portfolio by closely interacting with Discovery and Early Clinical Development.

Job Mission

As a Portfolio Pathologist, you are part of the Integrative and Computational Pathology team within EDO and are part of a team of scientists responsible for developing the tissue biomarker strategy across several Oncology projects. You are an expert on tumor tissue analysis and Digital Pathology approaches. You provide scientific guidance and generate key insights from tissue data to support drug development decision-making.

Your Impact
  • You are part of a cross-functional Integrative and Computational Pathology team to be at the forefront of tissue biomarkers for Oncology

  • You are an expert on the analysis of tumor tissue and its application to Drug Development, including Digital Pathology and multi-dimensional analysis

  • You drive key biomarker and pathology capabilities across the Early Clinical Development Oncology pipeline (Phase 1, 1b, 2 clinical trials)

  • You work at the project and portfolio level with responsibility for projects in the field of onco-immunology and Targeted Therapies: you provide medical and tissue biomarker expertise in the setup and conduct of biomarker studies. You analyze patient tissue samples and together with computational scientists you develop digital prototype approaches to evaluate spatial relationships in the tumor microenvironment. In reverse translation projects you analyze tissue biomarker data with other data types and generate insights relevant to the portfolio

  • You develop deep expertise through study analysis and thorough knowledge of the literature

  • You lead external academic partnerships related to tissue biomarkers and/or digital pathology.

Your Profile
  • You own an MD by training and are a board-certified pathologist

  • With at least 5 years of professional experience in Research and Development

  • Experience in tissue biomarkers such as discovering/developing insights from the analysis of tumors and tissues and converting them into testable clinical hypotheses

  • Experience in supervising, exploring, developing and analysing tissue analysis techniques such as immunohistochemistry, multiplex immunofluorescence and spatial omics approaches

  • Experience and interest in developing cutting-edge digital pathology approaches are required
